Love of my life!
Can’t live without you!
My one and only!
These are just a few of the phrases I see couples use for each other on social media. Most of them are boyfriend/girlfriend or living together.
Many times the next phrase is one of disgust as they have broken up with that person.
I knew a man years ago that told me that he couldn’t get up in the morning and look at the same person day after day.
I told him that I didn’t have a problem with that because I loved my wife. He told me I had not been married long enough yet. I had been married six years at the time.
That was thirty years ago and today Linda and I celebrate 36 years of marriage. I still have not got to the place that young man was talking about years ago. In fact, I cannot picture life without her by my side.
How long until you can honestly say that someone is the “love of my life” or “soul-mate”? Or how long before you can declare “I can’t live without you” or “you’re my one and only”?
I think I can safely say these things and yet there is someone that has said it to me, even before I was born and despite how I have lived.
The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying: “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you. Jer 31:3
That love is affirmed by the words of Jesus.
As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. John 15:9
And the Apostle Paul also gets in on it.
But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, Eph 2:4
God does not grow tired of you. His love is shown in the death of His son for you. He promises that love in the resurrection of Jesus.
His is an everlasting love.
