Imagine a two coworkers that have a project that both must work on together. The man and woman are just friends but the project throws them close together for weeks.
Both are married but the next thing you know and unplanned one night stand takes place.
When the wife confronts him about this betrayal he tells her it he has never done anything like this before, that it wasn’t planned, and “it just happened!”
Yep, it just happened!
My children have used that line on me before. Something breaks in the house – a vase, a glass, or something. I rush into the room and I’m told “it just happened”, like it just fell and broke by itself.
In the Bible there is a story of a king that did not go lead his man in battle. He sent his commander to do it for him, while he stayed at the palace.
Then it happened one evening that David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of the king’s house. And from the roof he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to behold. 2 Sam 11:2
Yep – it happened!
David inquired who his neighbor was and the answer actually came back,
“Is this not Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?” 2 Sam 11:3
There’s no denying that he did not know she was married!
An affair! A denial! A cover up! An elaborate plan is hatched to keep the secret that the woman is carrying the adulterous king’s child.
In the morning it happened that David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it by the hand of Uriah. 2 Sam 11:14
It just happened that the king sent a letter in the hand of the woman’s husband that would insure his death.
Don’t let “it happen” to you!
It may not be adultery – it can be anything.
Like the beginning story the married man and woman were not where God wanted them to be. It is written to
Abstain from all appearance of evil. 1 Thess 5:22
Remember – don’t give place to the devil!
Don’t let sin “just happen” to you!
