“Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” Gen 3:1
Satan wants to cast doubt into your mind. He wants you to doubt your worth to God,
His love for you, your salvation, and anything else that will draw you away from a relationship with Father.
It is written,
he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. James 1:6
That is not stability! That is not a firm foundation! Doubt causes the kind of confusion and conflict that Satan wants.
And all it takes is a question against God’s motives, just like the one asked of Eve or the statement to Jesus.
“If You are the Son of God…” Matt 4:3
The word “if” is meant to cast doubt and to cause one to prove oneself. Jesus had nothing to prove to the devil and neither do you.
However, I have discovered that most of the questioning of my faith does not come from the devil but from non-believers. They have questions about the Law and Prophets that are difficult to answer. They make statements about the Gospels that seem to contradict what I believe.
Even Jesus had someone come and try to cast doubt into His mind as He told His disciples how He would be killed and resurrected.
Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!”
But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.” Matt 16:22-23
Eve’s mistake was to forget what God had said and listen to what Satan was saying. Your response should be just the opposite and should be the same as Jesus – “Get behind me, Satan!”
