“And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve,
whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Josh 24:15
The words of Joshua are well known in Christendom. In it he tells the people to choose Whom they would follow.
“Far be it from us that we should forsake the Lord to serve other gods.” Josh 24:16
That was their reply but their actions conflict with their words.
When given a choice people won’t choose the wrong thing to do – they will choose their own will above all others.
It is written,
there is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death. Prov 16:25
I have often debated the term pro-choice and have had many people tell me they are against abortion but are pro-choice. To me there is no choice. It is pro-life.
I have been told that God made man with a free will and gave him a choice.
Again I will disagree.
Check the facts of the Bible.
God creates the world, creates man, and then places him in Eden.
And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” Gen 2:16-17
Man may have been a creature of free will, as demonstrated by his later actions, but God did not give man a choice. God commanded man that he should not eat of that certain tree.
God did not say, “Please choose whether or not you will eat of it but there are consequences if you do. So choose wisely!”
Instead God commanded a resounding “you shall not eat!”
Man was not given a choice to eat but took it upon himself to make a choice. He choose poorly.
I overheard someone say they were told to read their Bible and do the right thing. It’s hard for someone to choose to read the Bible and then turn around and choose to do the right thing. But if you do either you will have to make that choice.
God chooses for you salvation in Jesus Christ!
Satan chooses for you to follow your own will.
Your choice will side with one or the other.
Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve…but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
