There’s a new photo making the rounds on Facebook so I cannot promise to its validity. It’s called “blasphemy Sunday” and it’s a yard sign that says something like, “It’s been 2000 years. He’s not coming back. Get over it!”
Well it hasn’t been quite 2000 years, which I think is key but never mind that.
First, I believe there is a creator of that sign. There was an intelligence behind it. I don’t believe the sign evolved from a “garage sale” or “wet paint” sign.
The sign isn’t the result of a printing shop explosion where materials where thrown into the air and this sign fell together as is.
Just think, it took almost 2000 years for this sign to make its appearance. (I didn’t think that would ever happen and I was about to give up)
What the creator of the sign fails to recognize is how much time it took for Jesus to come the first time. That was around 4000 years!
I’ve often wondered why it took so long – why He didn’t come during the days of Adam and Eve or Moses. The reasoning behind that answer is found in the Bible and it is absolutely brilliant, at least what I understand of it. But I don’t have time today to go into those details.
Know this about the first time,
For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. Rom 5:6
For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time, 1 Tim 2:5-6
The phrase “due time” gives the sense of a time of the owner’s choosing. In this case it’s a matter of God’s choosing – a divinely appointed time.
Just like the sign that showed up in the yard and then on Facebook. Why wasn’t it there last week or 2 years ago? It was a time of the owner’s choosing; in due time it showed up.
And so it is with Jesus. Some of His last words to the disciples were,
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” John 14:1-3
So it seems things aren’t ready for Him to come back yet. Just like things weren’t ready from Him to be born of a virgin until the days of King Herod and Roman occupation of Israel.
But He is returning.
