You may think I’m harsh but I believe a main problem with the church today is sin on the inside. Christian’s aren’t living according to the ways of Christ and unbelievers can see it.
It’s not a new problem. Sin is sin and it exists in all. But when someone has been redeemed by the blood of Jesus, then a transformation must take place in that life – a change that is discernible by all.
Part of the weaponry of outsiders includes sins not policed within the church – sins like adultery, fornication, drunkenness, or lying.
The church can often overlook these things.
I have had couples in my church that were living together. Granted they were not in any form of leadership in the church. I believe the leadership of the church should be good examples for everyone and must not engage in behavior that would give cause for accusations.
In the Corinthian church was a problem with sin that the church allowed.
It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and such sexual immorality as is not even named among the Gentiles — that a man has his father’s wife! 1 Cor 5:1
A sin that the Gentiles (pagans or heathens) wouldn’t do!
Paul’s recommendation was this.
Deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. 1 Cor 5:5
More or less – get him out of your church.
Pray for him – sure!
Be friends with him – definitely.
Love him – yes.
But you cannot allow this type of behavior in the church according to Paul.
Paul continues with his thoughts and advice to the Corinthian church.
For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside? But those who are outside God judges. Therefore “put away from yourselves the evil person.” 1 Cor 5:12-13
