“Not everyone believes like you!”
That statement was given to a county clerk in Kentucky by someone seeking a same-sex marriage license, which she is refusing to grant based on her Biblical belief that marriage is between a man and a woman.
What was said to her by the applicants is true. And she could have said the same thing back to them – not everyone believes like you.
Different beliefs don’t bind people together – it divides them.
Even in Christianity not everyone believes the same. This is what gives us so many denominations, so many doctrines, and so many views and interpretation of scripture.
I could say that some are blatantly wrong but then you would say that’s according to my belief.
The strange thing is we all believe differently from the same Bible.
But then the Bible foretold this would happen.
There would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts. These are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit. Jude 18-19
When you attempt to let human reasoning outmaneuver God’s holy plan then you will begin to divide.
I will admit that human reasoning is on the side of the court decision – that “all men are created equal.”
But Godly holiness dictates that the equality is in sin –
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Rom 3:23
Although sin unites us as sinners, it divides us as people.
Jesus Christ came to restore equality by defeating sin.
God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Rom 5:8
Dying for us is not enough. You must also accept in your heart and mind that this is God’s only way of justifying a sinful person. Jesus is the only way to the Father. Jesus speaks the truth because He is the truth.
You may say that Jesus loves everyone. This is true. This is what Romans 5:8 and John 3:16 are all about. But Jesus love is extended to everyone through His death so that we can be saved.
Again, not everyone believes the same. Some want the love of Christ without the consequences of what He did to redeem everyone from sin. When you don’t believe the basics that God has set forth in His word.
Man divides. Jesus unites. When you place yourself completely under the authority of God’s word and the Holy Spirit, you will find what unites us.
For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin. Rom 6:5-7
It doesn’t matter if you believe like me or I believe like you. Do we believe as God believes?
