Where have I been?
It’s Labor Day and I’m up early reading my Bible and watching the morning news. And I just noticed that there is no Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon.
If you’re saying I’m behind the times, then you’re right. I had to resort to Google for the answer.
Jerry Lewis began doing the telethon in 1966 and “retired” in 2011. After that the hours got shorter and shorter over the next few years. Then in 2014 the MDA announced that the telethon was ending.
I remember, back in the day, the telethon was on every channel. Of course, in East Texas we only had 1 channel to watch. It was somewhat aggravating. I mean, it was a good cause and all but it was the only thing on and you can only take so much singing, joking, acts, videos, and asking for money.
It was kind of exciting to see the final total head higher and higher each year into double digit millions, with 2008 being the record year with over $65 million.
I often wondered what actually happened to all the money. Sure, they showed video of those with MD getting help, but you wonder how much help was actually received by anyone.
However it’s reported that in 1973 Jerry stated the mission of the MDA with this comment, “God goofed, and it’s up to us to correct His mistakes.”
Personally for me, one bad statement can wipe out years of good intentions. And for me, that statement does it.
It’s funny how God is blamed for things that go wrong.
Where was God when my momma died?
Where was God when the Twin Towers were attacked?
Where was God when prayer was taken out of school; when abortion was made legal and when marriage was redefined?
There’s a fellow in the Bible that pretty much asked the same thing. Only God responded!
Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said: “Who is this who darkens counsel by words without knowledge? Now prepare yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer Me.”
“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements? Surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? To what were its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone, when the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy?” Job 38:1-7
God is all holy. To me, His greatest attribute is His love.
You might ask, “how can a loving God allow disease, prejudice, hatred, deformities, or war?”
Your life ends someday – no matter what! You can live over a hundred years but sooner or later life ends. You can live a life of health and wealth or a life of struggle and strife – it ends.
Life is short and eternity is not!
God loves you so much that He provided the way for you to live eternity without the restrictions of this life.
God makes no mistakes.
As Jesus said to those that were trying to trip Him up with their logic on how God operates,
“You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God.” Matt 22:29
Read God’s word and learn the love and power of God.
