Don’t repeat Cain’s mistake!

And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the Lord. Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the Lord respected Abel and his offering, but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell. Gen 4:3-5

There are people just like Cain – upset at God!
But is this anger towards the Creator justified?

The Bible declares the reason God did not respect Cain’s offering.

By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, Heb 11:4

Evidently Cain lacked faith, without which it is impossible to please God.

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Heb 11:6

Cain was not rewarded, so he must not have diligently sought God.
There was nothing wrong with an offering like Cain brought. God would later give instruction on giving a grain offering – fruit of the ground.

Without shedding of blood there is no remission. Heb 9:22

A grain offering was not used for the remission of sin. In fact, it was often presented after a burnt offering, which was animal sacrifice.
This is what Abel presented to God – a blood sacrifice for the remission of sin.

Cain became angry.
Was the anger directed toward himself for not doing the right thing?
Was it at Abel for his acceptance by God?
Or was his anger toward God because He did not accept what was brought?

I don’t believe he was angry at himself. I know the times I get angry at myself for doing something wrong I just try to improve and do better next time.

I do believe he was angry at Abel. Jealousy got the best of him and he killed his own brother.
I believe he was angry at God. When the Creator questioned him about Abel, Cain became belligerent!

To me it’s almost like Cain brought an offering to God with a “take it or leave it” attitude.
I know some people that do the same thing and are quick to tell me what God finds acceptable.
I find their conclusions contradictory to the scripture.

In the book of Jude it talks about the Israelites that died in the wilderness, the angels that sinned, the citizens of Sodom and Gomorrah, those that reject authority, and speak evil of dignitaries. Jude compares them to the error of Cain. (Jude 5-11)

The Cain mentality is doing your will instead of His!
