Bread has long been a basic part of food. Different areas feature different types of bread.
I was raised with homemade buttermilk biscuits and cornbread being served at every meal.
Other areas of the country may feature sourdough bread, tortilla’s, potato bread, or yeast rolls.
I had a step-dad that wanted some kind of bread with every meal, even if it was just a slice of white bread.
My wife has narrowed her choices of bread now that she is gluten free.
The first mention of bread in the Bible is in Genesis after the fall of mankind. God cursed the ground, which had brought forth plentiful food. Now it would bring the same food but it will take work to get it.
In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Gen 3:19
Bread was used as a type of communion and hospitality between two people.
Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High. Gen 14:18
Bread, called manna, was given to sustain the people of Israel as they wandered for forty years.
Bread was incorporated into the worship of God through various feasts, holidays, and sacrifices.
Then came the declaration of Jesus.
I am the bread of life. John 6:35
It was through His sweat that He did His Father’s will and became the sacrifice for sin.
It is though Him that you have communion and hospitality with the Father.
It is through Jesus that you are daily sustained with the Holy Spirit.
Only through this Bread can you truly worship the Father.
Give us day by day our daily bread. Luke 11:3
Just like my step-dad wanted bread with every meal – so we should want this daily Bread.
