Against You, You only, have I sinned, and done this evil in Your sight — Ps 51:4
David penned those words after committing adultery, lying, and murder. A woman became pregnant – another man’s wife.
There was a cover up and deceit to pass the baby as the husbands own.
And there was the intentional disposal of the husband.
I might add the baby died soon after the birth.
After all this David claims that he had sinned against God only!
Ultimately all sin is against God. Uriah, the dead husband, cannot condemn nor punish David for what he had done. But God can!
Jesus said, “Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Matt 10:28
You can lie and get away with it. Not with God.
You can kill someone and never get caught. God already knows.
Even what you say will be held against you on that day – every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. Matt 12:36
The good news is Jesus came and gave His life for you. He took upon Himself your lies, your adultery, your murder, and your idle words.
There is life and forgiveness in Jesus!
