Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.” Luke 10:38-40

Two women with Jesus in the house – one served those listening while the other served by listening. One served by standing and one served by sitting.
Which of these two women do you identify with?
I will admit I often get “distracted with much serving”. I am pastor. I’m always thinking about the computer working, the beginning time, is there enough food, enough to drink, is it too cold, too warm, too loud, or am I making sense?
Even when I am not preaching you will often find me in the sound booth making sure a guest singer or speaker is audible.
That’s just what I do.
Linda and I are usually the last ones to turn out the lights and leave.

Now that’s not to say that others don’t do as much. I have watched the ladies go warm up portions of lunch before the end of service on a fellowship day. I’ve watched them stay late and clean up afterwards.

Everyone has a ministry of their very own; warming up lunch, taking out trash, adjusting the sound system, or teaching Bible.
However, there must come a time when everyone has an opportunity to sit down and learn from God’s word.
It may not all be at the same time as everyone else.

It’s important that someone serves. It’s important that someone learns.
