Isa 41:4 – ‘I, the Lord, am the first; And with the last I am He.’
God says He is the first and the last. Although this scripture is penned by Isaiah, you’re probably more familiar with the words of Jesus in Revelation: Rev 22:13 – I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”
It doesn’t stop there. You are a first and last, not in the sense of the Almighty, but in the sense of your life.
Here is what the Bible says about King David, the man after God’s own heart.
1 Chron 29:29-30 – Now the acts of King David, first and last, indeed they are written in the book of Samuel the seer, in the book of Nathan the prophet, and in the book of Gad the seer, with all his reign and his might, and the events that happened to him, to Israel, and to all the kingdoms of the lands.
The acts of his life, first and last, recorded for all to read. Not only the acts of David but the same is said of most of the kings of Israel – their acts were recorded, first and last!
I believe the same is said about you and me.
You are not the Alpha and Omega, Beginning and the End, the First and the Last, but your life has a beginning and end and everything done in between makes you who you are.
Most headstones contain a date of birth and a date of death, often with a dash in the middle. Your life really consists of that small symbol.
