““Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21
This scripture became evident to me when an elderly man spoke of how his deceased wife’s $70,000 ring was stolen from the safe.
People have always stolen things and will continue. Nothing is safe from a thief. Not in a safe! Not in the bank! And what good is something if you bury it?
It’s not just luxury items and the rich that thieves target. If you were homeless and living in a big cardboard box with a wool blanket – there’s someone that wants your box and blanket.
Heaven has no thieves, no moths, and no rust.
The greatest treasure laid up for you there is your salvation. You have a home there and it won’t fall apart. You have your needs taken care of and there is no need to steal.
I believe your acts of kindness in Jesus’ name add to heaven.
It could very well be that someone may walk up to you in heaven and say, “You gave to the missionary that visited your church and showed pictures of his work. He took your gift and returned back to the jungle. I heard him preach about Jesus and was saved.
I’m one of your treasures!”
