It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed. Ex 31:17
With getting up so early I often become weary early in the evening. Take yesterday for instance; I awakened sometime around 3:15 a.m. and started my day. When I arrived home around 3 p.m. I mowed the yard, which takes about an hour and a half.
I puttered around doing a few other outdoor things, finally cleaning up and settling down in my easy chair around six in the evening.
I watched the news and weather. I talked with a high school friend and texted with another.
I got on Facebook a while.
Then I started reading my Bible and studying. It seemed my eyes read the same passage of scripture several times and I still have no idea what it said.
I was weary and tired.
It was 8:30 and the only thing left to do was go to bed.
The body needs rest and a refreshing. It is written that God was refreshed on the seventh day. I’m not sure it’s the same as me but I understand the concept.
My body and mind needed refreshing so I slept. It’s amazing what a good night’s sleep does for you.
I went from grumpy and foggy minded to joy in a matter of a few hours.
Not only do you need physical refreshing but mentally and spiritually too.
You must do something you enjoy to refresh and renew your mind. It may involve work that you enjoy, like woodworking, a craft, or building something.
Perhaps fishing or crossword puzzles refresh your mind.
Just find something that is not your normal work – something that gives you joy.
Your spirit needs refreshing too.
The joy of the Lord gives your spirit just the boost you need. It comes from praising and worhshipping Him. It comes through the joy of fellowshipping with others. (1 Cor. 16:18; 2 Cor. 7:13; 2 Tim. 1:16)
Restore your joy. Refresh yourself in the Lord!
