And the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”
The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” Gen 3:13
The first deception took place in the Garden of Eden. Only two people existed and only one law ruled them – “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” Gen 2:16-17
The only two people were not atheists; they were not agnostic. The man and woman believed in God.
Life was extremely simple.
Deception complicated everything.
The woman knew the one law and spoke of it. However, she succumbed to the words of the serpent (Satan), which twisted the words of God.
Satan spoke of God holding back from giving them a greater understanding and he offered a way to opening their eyes to knowledge.
She became deceived because she forgot God’s word!
God says, “Don’t!”
Satan says, “Do!”
People choose between the two
You are deceived when you forget God’s word too.
The best defense against deception is reading, learning, and remembering God’s word.
