Self-examination, worldly gain, and honoring God!

But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 1 Cor 11:28

The first of a year is always a great time for self examination of one’s spiritual condition.

Bread and the cup represent Communion or the Lord’s Supper.
Interestingly, the first mention of bread and wine together predates the New Testament and even the Mosaic Law.

It happened in the time of Abram (Abraham).
Abram returned from a surprise attack on some pillagers and kidnappers. He rescued his own nephew, Lot, and retrieved all the stolen goods.

Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine (Gen 14:18) to Abram and blessed him.
Abram then gave a tenth of all to this priest of God Most High.
Abram also refused to take anything from the King of Sodom.

Genesis chapter 15 reveals how God reassured Abram of His protection and blessing.

I know it’s a bit of a stretch but it appears Abram examined himself and decided to honor God and refuse worldly (Sodom) influence and gain.
Discover closer communion with the Lord when you examine yourself and choose to do the same!
