Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age. Also he made him a tunic of many colors. But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and could not speak peaceably to him. Genesis 37:3-4
Jealousy and hatred lead to other problems when not kept under control.
Any family with multiple children has an opportunity for jealousy when one of the children seems to be the favorite. Joseph is a teenager (Gen 37:2) and a son of Israel’s old age from his favorite wife.
The Bible is clear how Israel felt about Joseph and the multi-colored tunic didn’t help things. His dreams caused more friction.
However, his snitching on some of his brothers probably sealed the deal.
But the brothers are at fault for allowing their jealouy get the best of them and casting Joseph into a pit and later selling him as a slave.
Last Sunday morning at church one of the ladies told us this in Sunday school – if it doesn’t matter don’t make it matter.
