So the men said to her: “We will be blameless of this oath of yours which you have made us swear, unless, when we come into the land, you bind this line of scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down, and unless you bring your father, your mother, your brothers, and all your father’s household to your own home. So it shall be that whoever goes outside the doors of your house into the street, his blood shall be on his own head, and we will be guiltless. And whoever is with you in the house, his blood shall be on our head if a hand is laid on him. Joshua 2:17-19
About forty years earlier, God told the Israelites to kill a lamb and put it’s blood on the door posts and lintel – it was the first Passover.
Everyone in the house lived when death passed through the land.
Now the oldest to remember that night are sixty years old.
I don’t know the age of the two spies in Jericho but their instructions to Rahab are reminiscent of that first Passover night – place a scarlet cord out the window and everyone in your house is safe.
The blood on the door and the scarlet cord were both visible signs of redemption and salvation.
Do you let others see the Blood applied to your life?
Are you dangling the Scarlet cord so they see your salvation?
You should never keep God’s grace and mercy for you as a secret. Always let it show in how you conduct your life.
