Memorable Scripture: Don’t seek God thru Sin

Now Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?”
And Saul answered, “I am deeply distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God has departed from me and does not answer me anymore, neither by prophets nor by dreams. Therefore I have called you, that you may reveal to me what I should do.” 1 Samuel 28:15

Saul had banished the mediums from the land then became a hypocrite by seeking advice from one.
He could not accept the fact that God cut him off from being king.
His main concerns were war with the Philistines and God no longer communicated with him.
Perhaps I view this too simply. It seems Saul’s answer is to repent, seek forgiveness, abdicate the throne, and throw his support behind David as the new king.
The answer is not in seeking God by going in disobedience against His word.
But that is the problem many people face today – seeking God through sin.
It doesn’t work!
It won’t work!
If you truly want to hear from God then humbly come to Him in repentance.

  1. You are exactly right, but as we know, there are no shortcuts to God.
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
