But he walked in the way of the kings of Israel; indeed he made his son pass through the fire, according to the abominations of the nations whom the Lord had cast out from before the children of Israel. 2 Kings 16:3
It’s a terrible time in the life of a nation when you give up your own national identity to accept the identity of other nations.
This happened in the Southern Kingdom of Judah.
Ahaz did not rule as David or the good kings before him. Instead, he copied the rule and spirituality of the wicked kings of Israel. He performed a religious rite never performed before by sacrificing his own son in fire to honor Moloch, a false Canaanite god.
Later he made a copy of a pagan altar he observed and liked. He set this up in the place of the one made by Solomon, who was commissioned to build the Lord’s Temple.
He made a few other changes in God’s House to suit himself.
A Godly nation that gives up its national identity to copy that of a pagan nation has died as a nation.
Without God, America ceases to exist. When God is shunned from the public, the path is taken without remorse.
When I lose my freedom to worship God so another person is allowed to worship, then America ceases to exist.
In my personal opinion, the current move to separate the children of parents illegally crossing into the country is similar to the separation of families in Nazi Germany, though I do not compare it to the concentration camps of that era.
I’ll say the same thing about a person or a church. When you, as a Christian individual or Christian church, start accepting the sinful ideology of those around you, you begin giving up your identity and freedom in Christ.
What is the answer to these problems?
Many will disagree with me but I find it in another memorable scripture – 2 Chronicles 7:14, if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
