Memorable Scripture: Obey the Word of God

Then they killed the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes, put out the eyes of Zedekiah, bound him with bronze fetters, and took him to Babylon. 2 Kings 25:7

Despite the reforms of Josiah, after his death, the nation returned to sin and crumbled. Eventually, the Babylonian army besieged Jerusalem to the point of starvation.
During this time the prophet Jeremiah is in the city. He is often mistreated because of the word of the Lord he gives.
Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, “Thus says the Lord, the God of hosts, the God of Israel: ‘If you surely surrender to the king of Babylon’s princes, then your soul shall live; this city shall not be burned with fire, and you and your house shall live. But if you do not surrender to the king of Babylon’s princes, then this city shall be given into the hand of the Chaldeans; they shall burn it with fire, and you shall not escape from their hand.’” (Jer 38:17-18)

To spare the city, his life, and his family, all Zedekiah needed to do was obey the word of God. However, he did not and the enemy overran the city, captured Zedekiah, and killed his family.

An enemy called sin has besieged you. Sin wants to starve you to death, to defeat you, to take away your life. To spare your life all you need to do is obey the word of God.
I could recite verse after verse on what you need to do but it comes down to confessing your sin to God and asking His forgiveness by the blood of Jesus.

If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” Rom 10:9-11
