Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and also put it in writing, saying… Ezra 1:1
Thus says Cyrus king of Persia:
All the kingdoms of the earth the Lord God of heaven has given me. And He has commanded me to build Him a house at Jerusalem which is in Judah. Who is among you of all His people? May his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem which is in Judah, and build the house of the Lord God of Israel (He is God), which is in Jerusalem. And whoever is left in any place where he dwells, let the men of his place help him with silver and gold, with goods and livestock, besides the freewill offerings for the house of God which is in Jerusalem. Ezra 1:2-4
The captivity of Israel is over, according to the word of God.
A second exodus began for Israel, though this one not as complete as the first from Egypt because many Jews opted to stay in Babylon.
As the Jews return they rebuild the Temple, rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, and a return to the Law with a rebuilding of worship of the Lord God.
I’ve witnessed many lives taken captive by drugs, alcohol, sexual perversion, lust, hate, grudges, and other strongholds.
God wants all set free from sin and its consequences. It takes a rebuilding of lives to do it.
Starting with the temple – the body. The body must be cleansed and rebuilt for the service of the Lord.
Walls are erected to keep out those things that would take you captive again.
And the worship of God needs rebuilding through the word of God.
Jesus said He came to set at liberty those who are oppressed. Luke 4:18
Through Christ your captivity to sin ends!
