Then the prophet Haggai and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophets, prophesied to the Jews who were in Judah and Jerusalem, in the name of the God of Israel, who was over them. Ezra 5:1
Opposition arose to the rebuilding of the Temple and the worked ceased. However, the prophet Haggai also arose in those days and said, “Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, and this temple to lie in ruins?” Now therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts: “Consider your ways! You have sown much, and bring in little; You eat, but do not have enough; You drink, but you are not filled with drink; You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; And he who earns wages, Earns wages to put into a bag with holes.” Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Consider your ways!” Hag 1:4-7
Prosperity begins with God.
You prosper yourself to do His will concerning your life, your family, and the church.
The people certainly did well for themselves by rebuilding their own homes for their families. Yet, they stopped the work on the Temple of God. As a result, their prosperity did not amount to much – “You have sown much, and bring in little.”
Through this prophet God asked the people to “Consider your ways!”
It is still a good question to ask today.
Are you building your life to the honor of God or the honor and gain of you?
Consider your ways!
Do you give in tithe and offering to the Lord or is it your hard earned money?
Consider your ways!
Do you give yourself time to prayer and personal Bible reading, devotion, and meditation of the word or do you have too many things to do around the house after work and are too tired afterward?
Consider your ways!
