Proverbs 27:1
Do not boast about tomorrow,
For you do not know what a day may bring forth.
This is a verse I have often quoted!
By faith each of us moves forward, believing our plans continue on schedule.
Last year Bob and Mary planned on traveling to Israel. They paid for the trip and began packing when he became very, very sick. With their plans dashed, they set on a curse of getting Bob well.
Now it’s a year later and they leave next week for that dream trip to Israel.
That’s how quickly plans can change. A sickness changes plans. An accident changes plans. Death changes plans.
Don’t let me depress you. Prayer changes plans. Love changes plans. Good news changes plans. Friendship changes plans. God changes plans.
James put a different spin on this by saying, “Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit’; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. Instead, you ought to say, ‘If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.’ But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.” James 4:13-16
So, if the Lord wills, I’ll give you another memorable verse next time!
