Memorable Scripture: Plumb Line – measurement and judgment

Amos 7:7-8
Thus He showed me: Behold, the Lord stood on a wall made with a plumb line, with a plumb line in His hand. And the Lord said to me, “Amos, what do you see?”
And I said, “A plumb line.”
Then the Lord said: “Behold, I am setting a plumb line in the midst of My people Israel; I will not pass by them anymore.”

A plumb line is a length of string with a small, balanced weight tied to the end.
When you hold the line up and let the weight dangle free, the line gives you a straight vertical reference – straight up and down.
Those skilled in carpentry and masonry often use a plumb line so walls and buildings are straight and level.
I used one to place my wood burning heater into a direct line to the flue pipe hole in the ceiling. It worked great.
A plumb line cannot lie. It always shows a level and straight vertical line.
Jesus is a plumb line. He is straight and true and cannot lie. He is a measurement to which all are judged.
You will not be judged against me, your neighbor, the pastor, or any murderer on death row. You are judged against the plumb line of Christ.
How do you measure up?
