Luke 10:38-40
Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.”
This is what siblings do! I didn’t have any but I raised some.
One always thought she had more work to do than the other or the other thought her sister always receive preferential treatment.
It’s the law of siblings!
Mary and Martha are siblings too. Martha serves and Mary listens.
It’s not preferential treatment – it is ministry.
This is Martha’s house therefore, she is the hostess. It is her responsibility to see to the hospitality and comfort of her guests.
She does not ask Mary for help but insists that Jesus tell Mary to help her.
Martha’s ministry is serving.
Mary’s ministry is worshipping. She is the one that pours oil on the feet of Jesus and wipes His feet with her hair.
They also have a brother, Lazarus. He has a ministry too.
He and Jesus are very good friends but Lazarus gets very sick and dies without a visit from Jesus.
In fact, He doesn’t show up until four days after the burial of Lazarus.
But Jesus raised Lazarus from the grave.
Lazarus ministry was sacrifice – he gave his life for the glory of God.
Everyone has a ministry.
Some do not do their ministry while you do yours; and vice versa.
Your ministry is not to impress others or to out-do others, it is for the glory of God.
Do your ministry!
