Luke 15:11-12
Then He said: “A certain man had two sons. And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me.’ So he divided to them his livelihood.
The Prodigal Son is a memorable scripture for many.
Let’s start with the son’s reason for leaving.
Perhaps, like many teens, he couldn’t wait until he turned of age and got out of the house.
I’ve heard that more than once in my lifetime – “I can’t wait until I’m 18! I’m moving out on my own!”
Not only did the young man want to leave but he wanted his inheritance.
What he is saying to his dad is, “I can’t wait for you to get old or die before I get my inheritance. Give it to me now!”
Good news for all that know Christ as Savior – The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs — heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. Rom 8:16-17
Now, instead of leaving home, I can’t wait to get home!
Plus, I don’t have to wait for someone to die to get my inheritance because Jesus already died.
As an added bonus, He also conquered death so my inheritance includes eternal life!
