Ephesians 1:4-5
just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,
Now we get into predestination.
Calvinistic/Reformed thought will tell you God predestines who goes to heaven and who goes to hell. Actually that God chooses who goes where.
I agree with that thought but not in the same way.
The verse says He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world.
Predestination takes place in the choice of Christ. God predetermined that all who accept Jesus at Savior are forgiven by His blood, grace, and mercy.
Likewise, those that do not choose Christ are predestined for death as indicated through scripture – Ezek 18:20-The soul who sins shall die. Rom 6:23- the wages of sin is death.
God chose Christ as the way to heaven.
And God chose us by adoption as sons by Jesus Christ. This is the predestination.
It’s not the individual that is predestined to heaven or hell, it is the way God chose for us to enter heaven that is predestined.
I am in Christ.
Therefore, I am chosen in Him.
Therefore, I am predestined because of Him.
Therefore, I am adopted by Him.
God’s desire is for all to be in Christ and predestined to heaven. He’s not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
Sadly, many people will choose a different way than Christ and will fall into judgment of that decision.
