Hebrews 13:2 Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels.
I have always thought of this verse when I see people panhandling, standing on the side of the road, or dropping by the church looking for a handout.
One such time was when a man walked up to the church one evening and was trying to get to a homeless shelter in Lufkin.
One of the other men and I talked about it and took him to Lufkin, about 30 miles away.
In the course of our conversation, I asked him point-blank, “Are you an angel that’s going to disappear on us?”
He said no and stared at me for a while.
Angels are God’s messengers and this verse says they can visit us.
Angels are a different create being from us.
When we die we do not become angels able to come back and visit our family.
I believe angels are all around us, unseen and silent unless God needs them to be seen or heard.
So be kind to strangers!
