Short days to Eternity

Job 14:1-2 “Man who is born of woman Is of few days and full of trouble. He comes forth like a flower and fades away;

I am doing the funeral of someone today.
She lived to be just three weeks shy of 90 years old.
Funerals come in all ages.
I have done the service for a 5-year-old and I have done the service at the opposite end of the scale for a 100-year-old.
I know the 5-year-old seems so cruel and so short a life.
The 100-year-old would also say his life was short – like a flower quickly fading.
Linda just recently made the comment about her and me, “How did we get to be so old?”
My answer is always the same – given enough time we all grow old.
For the young time stands still.
Christmas never gets here.
Eighteen is so far away.
I can’t wait to get to grow enough to move out.
For the older folks, it all came too soon.
Two things are certain though – The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.” Isaiah 40:8
Given time you and I will eventually join so many others in the cemetery.
But time has no effect on the word of God.
It is eternal.
And unlike Christmas and turning 18, you do not need to wait to accept Jesus as Savior.
That can happen today.
