What you will leave behind!

old_man_with_childChildren’s children are the crown of old men, and the glory of children is their father. Prov 17:6

What will you leave behind for your children?
I’m not talking about the house, stamp collection, dishes, and municipal bonds. I’m talking about the real things they will remember – the things that will change their lives and lead them to change others. Continue reading

Well blended!

brady bunchI’m not sure I knew this but a step-family is called a blended family. Funny thing is I thought a blended family would be akin to a mixed-race family – a blending of races.
So I guess I have been a part of a blended family since I’ve had three step-dads and one step-mom. Continue reading

Whole Heartedly

whole heartI was telling someone the other day that you can only do one thing and put your whole heart into it – to do it with excellence.

Driving is a great example. By itself, you can do it very well. Add texting or talking and the results are completely different, as you learn from watching the evening news. Continue reading

Make each child a favorite.

young-children copyThree and a half years after Linda and I married our first child was born – a girl we named Lindsey. Eighteen months later her sister, Kimberly, arrived.

We have only ever known raising girls; even after our granddaughter Haylee was born and we still only knew raising girls.

  6. Give shelter to the homeless.
  7. Give clothes to those who need them
  8. Do not hide from relatives who need your help. Continue reading

I’ve been scanning and posting old photographs on Facebook.
One such photo is one of my dad, two of his sisters, and me.
There the four of us were; frozen in time.
Someone else may be living in the house; the walls may have been painted and maybe new appliances have been bought, Continue reading

Adopted

God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. Eph 1:5
Our topic touched on adoption last night. Continue reading

An only (but not lonely) child

I am an only child!
I have no brothers and no sisters but I do have many cousins and there is one in particular that I saw quite often as I was growing up, her name is Donna.
At times we were inseparable as we played or got in trouble. She was just about the closest thing to a big sister that I’ve ever had and perhaps I was a little brother to her because she, too, is an only child. Continue reading
