Love Covers Your Family

I learned a Biblical principle the other day.
It’s written, “love will cover a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8
No place is this exercised the most than with family.
You will tend to over look the sins of family because of your love for them.
I was in the mall the other day with a friend.
As we sat around we watched all kinds of people walk by.
My friend made a comment about a freaky looking man.
I turned around to see a guy with a scraggly, long beard.
“Look at that beard on that guy” he said.
I turned, looked at him and said, “but your dad has the same kind of beard!”
To my friend, the stranger with the beard was a freak while his dad is a hero.
In the Bible an old priest by the name of Eli who had 2 sons, Hophni and Phineas, that had been crooked for years in the priesthood.
Eli was very old; and he heard everything his sons did to all Israel, and how they lay with the women who assembled at the door of the tabernacle of meeting. So he said to them, “Why do you do such things? For I hear of your evil dealings from all the people. No, my sons! For it is not a good report that I hear. You make the LORD’s people transgress. If one man sins against another, God will judge him. But if a man sins against the LORD, who will intercede for him?” Nevertheless they did not heed the voice of their father, because the LORD desired to kill them. 1 Sam 2:22-25
Eli exercised no authority over his sons. His rebuke was mild because he loved them and his love overlooked their sins, to a certain degree.
I know; you’re like me; he should have knocked both of them upside the head.
As it went, the 2 sons died in war, the Ark of God was taken, and when Eli got the news, he fell off his seat and broke his neck.
So you see that he who rebukes a man will find more favor afterward than he who flatters with the tongue. Prov 28:23
Do those you love a favor, love them but correct them.
