This is kind of continued from yesterday.
Eli wasn’t the only one that held the Ark in high regard, so did his daughter-in-law, Phinehas’ wife.
She was expecting and when she heard the Ark was taken and that her husband and father-in-law were dead, she went into labor.
The labor was hard on her and before she died she named the child Ichabod, saying, “The glory has departed from Israel!” because the ark of God had been captured and because of her father-in-law and her husband. And she said, “The glory has departed from Israel, for the ark of God has been captured.” 1 Sam 4:21-22
Ichabod-the glory has departed!
The child would grow up and be a reminder of that dreadful day when Israel lost the Ark of the Covenant.
Our society does much the same thing; we will name our children after sports heroes, movie stars or their on-screen names, or any other source that catches our attention.
My name is Timothy, which means honoring God.
I pray I live up to that meaning.
So if you were to name a child according to world events, what would that name be?
