Obadiah Has A Message For Today

Yesterday evening I felt God leading me to the book of Obadiah.
It’s not a large book; only 21 verses.
It may not be as glorious as Isaiah or Daniel but it’s still a powerful little book.
As the evening continued I couldn’t get Obadiah out of my head so I turned over there and read.
I probably sat there with a puzzled look on my face for a while as I wondered why God wanted me in Obadiah.
It’s Esau!
Esau (Edom) was the brother of Jacob (Israel) but gave up his Godly birthright for a bowl of stew.
Though he is the twin brother, he traded it off.
Speaking about Edom, Obadiah says, “The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; you who say in your heart, ‘Who will bring me down to the ground?’ Though you ascend as high as the eagle, and though you set your nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down, says the LORD.” Obad 3-4
God has many things to say about the sin of pride.
Perhaps his pride deceived him into thinking he was still a blessed person because he was of the same family; after all, he and Jacob did have the same parents, they were twins.
There are many people believing they are saved because of their relationship; mom and dad are Christians or they’ve gone to church their whole life.
It is pride that keeps many from turning to God for salvation or it keeps them from following God’s directions for our lives.
Esau is kin to Israel, kin to the Christian, if you will.
They dwell in the clefts of the rock, not on Christ, the solid rock.
Pride causes them to think they are invincible; that nothing can happen to them. That they are protected against the evil of this world and are destined to be rich and prosperous.
But I believe they are delusional; lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. 2 Tim 3:2-5
They are pseudo-Christians, the false Christians that dwell among us.
