God's Farm-Ville

I talked with an old high school friend yesterday!
His wife has been diagnosed with cancer but we know that Jesus can heal.
Our conversation drifted along and Van finally said, “I need to do like you and quit Farm-Ville!”
In case you don’t know, Farm-Ville is a Facebook game where you plant and harvest crops, plow the ground and start over again.
You get fake money for selling the crops so you can buy more seed and do it again.
I guess I played for about 3 months but gave it up cold-turkey right before Christmas.
Sure I was moving up in status and points but it was going nowhere.
I was consumed every evening to plow, plant, harvest… plow, plant, harvest… plow, plant, harvest.
It took a lot of time away from family and God.
I’m one that fully believes that each of us need some type of leisure activity or recreation.
But it’s a waste of time to do it every day, especially if you are a Christian.
Jesus has already set up a Farm-Ville for his people.
Paul said, “I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase.” 1 Cor 3:6-7
The prophet Jeremiah reminds us of the importance of the harvest; the harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved! Jer 8:20
Jesus also reminded us of the importance of the harvest; Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest ‘? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest! John 4:35-36
And “The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” Luke 10:2
So let’s all head out into the garden.
There’s plenty of work to do and enough for all!

  1. The book of Ruth so impressed me. The way Boas greeted his workers. We all labor at something. How nice to be greeted with a smile and friendly word. You know a person is more likely to have a better day and work harder if they feel appreicated. Who knows maybe one of them will be with out Christ, and your kindness’ will bring them in. I have had strangers come up and say, I overheard what you said… So God is not the only one listening.
