Prayer and fasting definitely leads to a closer relationship to the Father.
Fasting will be one of the most difficult things you will ever do.
Each of us has a love-affair with food and much more!
But if you desire to know God much better then try fasting.
Anna was a prophetess and she served God with fastings and prayers night and day. Luke 2:37
She was in the temple the day that Joseph and Mary brought the Baby Jesus to dedicate Him according to the Law.
And coming in that instant she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem. Luke 2:38
This is a fantastic story but does it have anything to do with you?
Everything in the Bible is relatable to you!
It is written humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up. James 4:10
How can you humble yourself?
David said, “I humbled myself with fasting.” Ps 35:13
Ezra said, “Then I proclaimed a fast there at the river of Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God.” Ezra 8:21
It says in Deuteronomy, He humbled you, allowed you to hunger. Deut 8:3
Again, fasting and prayer leads to a closer relationship to God.
Fasting has been lost in today’s Christian church.
Fasting is more than just doing without food; it’s about removing a pleasurable interference between you and God.
This can be food, it may be Facebook, television, even a relationship can draw you away from God; it’s anything that you are passionate about on a daily basis.
Humility is found in denial.
Denial leads to self-examination.
Self-examination will hopefully lead to a closer relationship with the Lord; let us search out and examine our ways and turn back to the LORD; Lam 3:40
Even the most self-righteous will repent under humility!
Please consider fasting and praying. It will be the hardest and most rewarding time of your spiritual life.
