I awakened this morning to one of the sweetest sounds in the world; rain!
As I sit here writing its 4am and it’s a downpour.
The rain is falling on the roof and trickling to the ground making a pleasant splashing sound.
The rain will slack off a bit and then it’s like God turns on the faucet a bit more and it’s a flood!
I walk out to the front porch; it’s totally dark except for the distant security lights at across the distant road.
But I’m not outside to see anything; I just want to smell the rain cleansed air!
After about 20 minutes the rain fades away.
There are a few lingering sprinkles and the coolness in the air.
The chance of rain was only around 20%, not much at all.
A couple of days ago it was a 60% chance and I saw nothing!
We’ve really been in a drought in Texas; our local lake is almost 8-feet below normal level.
Any rain is most welcomed.
In Deut 32:2 it says, let my teaching drop as the rain, but I think we’ve been in a spiritual drought!
God’s word is refreshing and good like the rain; it brings what is withered and dying back to life.
Like rain causes plants and trees to bear fruit, so should the Holy Spirit cause you to bear fruit unto God.
James says, “Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.” James 5:7-8
Perhaps it is that God will send that latter rain before His coming; pouring out His Spirit on us so that we will reap a harvest for Him.
Lord, send down the rain. Fill our hearts with a renewal and a fresh desire to serve you.
