The only way you’ll ever be good enough!

How good are you?
Are you good enough to make it into heaven?
There are so many counting on that so let’s look at an example and the facts.
Jesus was questioned about what it would take to make it into heaven.
Once a religious leader asked Jesus this question: “Good teacher, what should I do to get eternal life?”
“Why do you call me good?” Jesus asked him. “Only God is truly good. But as for your question, you know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery. Do not murder. Do not steal. Do not testify falsely. Honor your father and mother.’ “
The man replied, “I’ve obeyed all these commandments since I was a child.” Luke 18:18-21 NLT
The religious leader said he had never committed adultery, murder, theft, lying, or disrespected his parents.
Now Jesus never argued, debated, or disagreed with what the man has said.
So is that all it would take to have eternal life; follow the commandments?
Absolutely!
Let’s continue with the dialogue; “There is still one thing you lack,” Jesus said. “Sell all you have and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” But when the man heard this, he became sad because he was very rich. Luke 18:22-23 NLT
Jesus did not disagree with what the man said about his relationship with others, but this is only the last 6 commandments.
The first four deal with our relationship with God and in this the man was poorly lacking.
I’m fairly certain he was lacking in the others too.
James says the person who keeps all of the laws except one is as guilty as the person who has broken all of God’s laws. For the same God who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” So if you murder someone, you have broken the entire law, even if you do not commit adultery. James 2:10-11 NLT
I’ve broken at least 1 commandment; that makes me a sinner and the soul who sins shall die. Ezek 18:4
So you cannot be good enough to have eternal life.
This is the gift that Jesus gives to us; for the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Rom 6:23
And by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.
Eph 2:8-9
Accept Jesus today; it’s the only way you’ll ever be good enough!
