Hold on to His Hand!

He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the LORD. Prov 18:22
My great grandparents, John and Dorothea Wise, were married for 68 years, 7 months, 21 days when she died in the early 1970’s.
I thought that was an amazing number of years to be together but the story I read yesterday really touched me.
Gordon and Norma were married May 1939; he was 22 and she was 18.
According to their family they were old-fashioned and believed in “til death do us part” and for 72 years that’s how it has been.
Last week they were both in a wreck and were put into the same ICU.
According to Dennis, their youngest son, “”They brought them in the same room in intensive care and put them together — and they were holding hands in ICU. They were not really responsive.”
Gordon died at 3:38 p.m. holding hands with his wife as the family surrounded them.
Dennis was a bit confused because Gordon stopped breathing but his heart monitor was still going.
The nurse came in and he asked her what was happening; how does he still have a heartbeat?
The nurse checked and said it was because they were holding hands and Norma’s heart was beating through him and picking it up.
She died one hour later!
What a sweet story that is; it brought a tear to my eye.
It also got me to thinking.
It says in Isaiah 54:5 – For your Maker is your husband, The LORD of hosts is His name;
The Christians relationship with Christ is an intimate one that will last a lifetime; even after death.
And as long as you are in this life, you should be holding on to His hand so that His heart beats through you!
David, a man after God’s own heart, knew this and said, “I delight to do Your will, O my God and Your law is within my heart.” Ps 40:8
And also “Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.” Ps 119:11
I want the heart of the Lord to beat in me; I want to hold on to Him and let His word be written on my heart.
When that happens the words of Paul will be realized; let the peace of God rule in your hearts. Col 3:15
