Another Excuse to Get Divorced

It’s just been reported that 33 percent of divorce petitions filed in Britain give the reason as Facebook.
The main three reasons regarding Facebook-related causes for filing a divorce were: inappropriate messages sent to the opposite sex; posting nasty comments about former partners; and friends reporting a spouse’s behavior on the social media website.
Far too many people seem to be too careless about the power behind social media, and unaware that statements posted on Facebook and Twitter have legal validity.
I personally don’t buy into it.
Infidelity, flirting, and talking trash about exe’s existed long before Facebook.
The problem lies within the hearts of those that are seeking divorce.
Jesus told the scholars of His day, “Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.” Matt 19:8
It is the hardness of people’s hearts that lead to divorce.
It is because one or both do not follow the Biblical principles for husbands and wives; Eph 5:22-25 – Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her.
What this is saying is a wife should live for her husband, as the church lives for Christ; and a husband is to die for his wife, as Christ died for the church.
There leaves no room for selfishness and hardness of hearts.
As for blaming Facebook, it is in our nature to blame someone else.
This comes from the fall of man; and [God] said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?”
Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.”
And the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”
The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” Gen 3:11-13
More marriages could be healed if there was more truth and honesty in asking forgiveness and giving of forgiveness.
Instead of looking for reasons to divorce, perhaps couples need to look for reasons to reconcile and stay together.
As for Facebook, it will be replaced by a different excuse someday.

  1. If we truely want to know God’s kind of love we’ll have to study the Bible & (pray) talk to God often. And learn to listen for that still small voice.
