Facebook has afforded us a glimpse into each others lives and a proof of a Biblical perspective.
If you’re like me, you have certain friends that will be happy one day and miserable the next; they’ll be in the best relationship and the love of their life, the next moment they are single.
You see them praising God today, cursing men tomorrow; Sometimes [the tongue] praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God. And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right! James 3:9-10
How much effort does it take to curse someone?
How much effort does it take to bless someone?
It would seem that both take the same amount of energy but only one makes you look good!
More than this, perhaps it is a lack of faith and understanding of God.
Read what James has to say; if you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do. James 1:5-8
Allow me to make an observation, though some may say I’m judging.
I think too many are looking for a relationship in the wrong place. They aren’t looking for a friendship/soul-mate from God, but settling for anyone that comes along.
I have heard more than once the expression, “He’s so nice!” only to have him called a lot of other different names later.
Many others think that life should be easy with no problems or consequences to wrong actions; that everything should be handed to them on a platter.
Life is neither easy nor fair; c’est la vie.
None of us are owed anything and this includes salvation. God did not have to send His Son but He did because He loves us. This is grace and it’s not owed; it’s given.
Finally James has some other words of wisdom for us; If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you are bitterly jealous and there is selfish ambition in your heart, don’t cover up the truth with boasting and lying. For jealousy and selfishness are not God’s kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and demonic. For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind. James 3:13-16
