It’s more important than your personal finances or family prosperity.
What is it?
It’s planting a seed of faith into the life of another person by sharing the Gospel message with them; by living that message before others every day.
Every day you and I are planting some kind of seed in the life of those around us. It can be a seed of love or a seed of hate; a seed of kindness or cruelty; a seed of mercy or a seed of condemnation.
To say you are a Christian, that you know Jesus as Savior, plants a seed of hope into someone. To not live like a Christian plants a weed into the same person.
The Bible says you shall not sow your vineyard with different kinds of seed, lest the yield of the seed which you have sown and the fruit of your vineyard be defiled. Deut 22:9
The spiritual application is obvious; you cannot plant seed to prosper life and plant other seed that destroys it.
James said it a different way; Does a spring of water bubble out with both fresh water and bitter water? Does a fig tree produce olives, or a grapevine produce figs? No, and you can’t draw fresh water from a salty spring. James 3:11-12
Along with the verse in Deuteronomy is the next one that says, You must not plow with an ox and a donkey harnessed together. Deut 22:10
It all goes toward the same principle of mixing together what should not be mixed.
Paul also addressed it; Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. 2 Cor 6:14-16
Now I’m sure you have heard this preached about many times in relationship situation. Yes, it does go toward that but it is also can be used for our principle of mixing the seed from Deuteronomy.
A person cannot mix a double lifestyle of Christianity with anything. You cannot be a Christian and continue to live worldly. Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it? Rom 6:2
There are too many that name Jesus as Savior but don’t follow after Him with their whole heart.
This confuses the worldly mind, it leads our children astray, and it divides the Body of Christ. It ruins and defiles the life that professes Christ and causes the life that doesn’t to be driven away.
Each Christian must learn to properly plant a seed of faith and grace into his/her own life and into the life of others.
More about that next time.
James 1:8 says it well, “he is a double minded man, unstable in all his ways”
