Seeing God in the Sea

I’m back from the cruise. It was an experience of a lifetime and there is much I can (and will) write about; but where to start?

I could tell you of the food or the dolphin swim excursion. I could start with the constant drinking and partying that went on and on; or the flying fish, the sunsets and sunrises, or that blue on blue water.
I’ll start with Sunday.

Linda and I, along with our companions, Steve and Kathy, wanted to get together and have a time of praise and worship with a short devotion. Through a wonderful Jamaican lady named Edna, we ended up in the company of forty-five African-American women that called themselves the Cruising Diva’s. And we had church with prayer, singing, testimonies, the reading of God’s word, and a most hilarious skit.
I am very thankful to Father for putting us all together at sea for this time of fellowship.

But as I sat there in the room where we had gathered, I couldn’t help but look at the blue water beyond the windows of that room and think one thought – Genesis 1:1-2, In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.

There was nothing but water beyond that glass. No land to see and no other vessels in sight. Just water from horizon to horizon.
I recall the words of Amos – People will stagger from sea to sea and wander from border to border searching for the word of the Lord, but they will not find it. Amos 8:12
To me, seeing God is as easy as just looking around. You don’t have to search from sea to sea or border to border; He is in the sea and He is in everything on the trip to the border.

Look around today and see the miracle of life that is God.

  1. Seeing God comes from spiritual discernment, & that comes from spiritual awakening & that comes from seeing personal need of the Savior & accepting Him. What a blessed miracle that is…the rest is icing on the cake. I am so glad you guys got to enjoy your cake!

  2. I was praying that you and Linda had a wonderful time… I am overwhelmed by God’s glory, magnificence, and power every cruise we take. I have been a little hesitant to take a non-christian cruise because ours have been totally bought out by ministries – so glad to hear that you found a place and a group of ladies to experience God together 🙂 … can’t wait to read your other reflections and observations!
