Signs and weather

ThermometerMy grandpa always said that if there was thunder in February, there would be a cold snap (as he called it) on that day in April; meaning if it thundered on February 15th it would be cold on April 15th.
Through the years this has held close to being true though I often don’t write anything down to verify it.
Two months is a long time to try and remember a clap of thunder on a particular in February.

This past Wednesday two things popped up on my computer calendar; one was that I needed to pay the house insurance. The other said “COLD SPELL? Thunder on this day in February”
The temperature had been warm.
The past weekend it was near 80 and had continued into the week.
The week before this one the temps had stayed warm and mild with the low’s only reaching down into the 60’s.
And Wednesday had started out the same – it was warm and mild.
That changed by the time I got home as the temperature dropped down into the 40’s.
It seems grandpa was right… again!

Jesus also spoke about the weather; then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him asked that He would show them a sign from heaven. He answered and said to them, “When it is evening you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red’; and in the morning, ‘It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times. A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.” And He left them and departed. Matt 16:1-4

What are the signs of the times telling us today?
If you have heard me teach or read the Morning Thought for very long then you know what I see – the return of Jesus.

When God created the sun, moon, and stars He said, “Let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years.” Gen 1:14
Then Jesus said, “And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars.” Luke 21:25
The old timers and the Old Book both have it right – watch for the signs!
