The Reality is…

philWell what is on the news this morning.

It seems one of the top stories is about Phil Robertson.

Phil is the patriarch of the family and one of the stars of Duck Dynasty. This show is about a family of “rednecks” (and proud of it) that built an empire with duck calls.
It’s a reality show.
So the reality is Phil is a Christian, as are the claims of the other family members.
So the reality is if Phil is a Christian he is going to agree with the word of God – the Bible!
The reality is the Bible is offensive to those that are living in sin.

The reality show producers and some advocacy groups claim he made some derogatory bigoted statements.

The reality is in what he said compared to what the Bible says.

This is what he is reported to have said.
Paraphrasing 1 Corinthians, “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”

So what does the Bible really say?

Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God. Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Cor 6:9-11

The reality is Paul wrote the letter to the Corinthians.
The reality is Paul was inspired by the Holy Spirit to write the letter.
The reality is that homosexuality is a sin along with idolatry, stealing, greed, alcoholics, and adulterers.
The reality is the wages of sin is death. Rom 6:23
The reality is Jesus came to set us free from sin, which holds us in bondage to those and many other sins.
The reality is without accepting Jesus as Savior there is no way into the kingdom of God.
The reality is Phil is protected under the 1st Amendment to speak his mind.
The reality is you and I are protected under the 1st Amendment to teach from the Bible the same exact scripture Phil was paraphrasing.
The reality is just because someone doesn’t like what the Bible says doesn’t change the fact that sin is sin.
The reality is Christians should be praying for and reaching out in love to share Jesus with the lost.
The reality is not everyone will accept the truth or believe in Jesus as Savior.
The reality is anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire. Rev 20:15
That’s reality. And it’s not a show!
Col 2:17-Christ himself is that reality.

  1. Thank you for this email–I am in total agreement with what you write and what Phil said! Christ, Christians, and the world will always be in conflict over the issue of sin. It is what it is. I am grateful for men like Phil (and many others) who stand for their beliefs!
