I recently asked this question on Facebook, “in your opinion, what is the main sin problem of America?”
I did get responses but it was not what I expected.
Here are what my friends on Facebook said.
Selfishness, greed, placing other gods before God, ethical morality, irresponsible people, apathy, non-repentance, worshipping the created instead of the Creator, replacing the Trinity with me, myself and I, pride, Congress, not loving God with all our heart, soul, and mind, sexual immorality, consumerism, leaving God out, complacency, lying, denying God, disbelief, lack of love for our fellow man and all of God’s creatures, denying Jesus Christ, worship of self, idol worship, gold as a god, unbelief, leaving God out of everything, and gossiping.
These are all true sin issues with this country. It’s quite a list against us and I believe it exists partially because of the apathy of the church to preach the pure word of God, to pray, and to cry out against sin.
Now that sin has such a foothold on the nation, it seems near impossible to do anything about it.
Isaiah faced the same problem with his country.
Alas, sinful nation, q people laden with iniquity, a brood of evildoers, children who are corrupters! They have forsaken the Lord, they have provoked to anger the Holy One of Israel, they have turned away backward. Isa 1:4
How the faithful city has become a harlot! It was full of justice; righteousness lodged in it, but now murderers. Your silver has become dross, your wine mixed with water. Your princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves; everyone loves bribes, and follows after rewards. They do not defend the fatherless, nor does the cause of the widow come before them. Isa 1:21-23
That does sound familiar and were sins given by the Facebook crowd. And though someone did mention sexual immorality I had expected more of that. Or perhaps that is my own belief.
Sexual immorality is such a broad term but covers everything in its path. Certainly the country is immersed into it. The sad news is that Christians are overwhelmed by it also.
Church leaders are watching porn on the internet in the middle of the night.
Pastors are engaged with both female and male prostitutes.
Church members are having affairs.
Some churches are accepting openly homosexual priests or pastors.
It is an unholy mess we’ve gotten ourselves into.
But sexual immorality is just the tip of the problem. It may not exist had it not been for pride, apathy, non-repentance, and greed.
All these sins say one thing about America – we have not put God first in our lives. He has been replaced with selfish motives and intentions.
It is not God’s will but our will be done.
What can be done?
Can the country be saved?
Can there be revival?
I fully believe the answer is YES and it begins with the house of God.
If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 2 Chron 7:14
