A big part of the Christmas story is the events surrounding the birth of John, the baptist.
In it is a lesson to learn for today.
It came time for a priest named Zacharias to perform duty in the Temple, a once in a lifetime opportunity.
While in the Temple the angel Gabriel appears to him and says that he and his elderly wife would have a son and to name him John.
Zacharias had a hard time believing this since Elizabeth were way past child bearing years.
Because of his unbelief, Zacharias was left speechless.
But when he came out, he could not speak to them; and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple, for he beckoned to them and remained speechless. Luke 1:22
Over the next 9 months he was mute. But when the time came and Elizabeth gave birth to a son, all the relatives and neighbors thought he should be named Junior. Elizabeth resisted and said he should be named John.
They turned to the dad and asked what he thought.
And he asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, saying, “His name is John.” So they all marveled. Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he spoke, praising God. Luke 1:63-64
