Wake up! Get up! Time's up!

An alarm seldom wakes me up! That’s because I usually wake up and get up before it can go off.
But I know many others whose alarm goes off and they hit the snooze button.
Minutes later it goes off again – and again they hit the snooze button. This goes on for several minutes until they absolutely have to get up to keep from being late.

I honestly don’t understand that mentality. If I set the alarm for 5 o’clock, that’s because I need to get up at 5 o’clock, not 6 o’clock!

But on to a more spiritual matter.

And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. Rom 13:11

I fear the church is snoozing through alarm after alarm.
Since the day Jesus ascended to the Father, there has always been the possibility that He would return. When He does – that’s it!
So it is up to the church to share the Gospel message with everyone in hopes they would be saved.

We hear a stirring message from a minister. It wakes us up! We think “we need to visit more. We need to witness more. We need to be more active!”
Then we walk out of church and hit the snooze button.

Back in the late 70’s, minister/singer/songwriter Keith Green had a popular song called Asleep in the Light. A portion of the lyrics goes like this:

The world is sleeping in the dark,
That the church just can’t fight,
’cause it’s asleep in the light!
How can you be so dead?!
When you’ve been so well fed
Jesus rose from the grave,
And you!
You can’t even get out of bed!

I don’t believe we can afford to hit the snooze button any more. It’s time for the church to wake up, get up, and speak up before Jesus calls us up!
