Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rom 12:14
This is a great scripture to remember today, a simple instruction.
Applying it to your life can be more difficult. Most are more likely to fight and fuss when they feel singled out or persecuted in some way.
Peter says you should not return evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing. (1 Peter 3:9)
The natural disposition is an eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth. Jesus began to chip away at this by saying, “Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.” Matt 5:44
It can be challenging. Most react quickly to harsh words and offensive acts toward them. To help with the ability to follow the scripture is another scripture to take to heart – let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath. James 1:19
